Chartered in 1961, the Medical Office Assistants’ Association of BC is a non-profit association with active provincial chapters and many members-at-large.
Members work in medical offices and facilities throughout the province. They are employed in a variety of positions – receptionists, secretaries, office managers, clerks, bookkeepers, technicians, medical office assistants and educators. Student membership is available.
Our mandate is to develop and maintain a strong, professional image that will be valued by patients and the medical community. The association is committed to providing opportunities for educational, personal and professional growth in order to assist members’ productivity and to increase their satisfaction with their work environment.
BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP
The association provides opportunities to attend seminars and work-related meetings. Furthermore, members have the chance to network both locally and provincially. The MOAA of BC website provides news and current events about our healthcare communities in BC. New Westminster, Chapter 17 holds monthly meetings and invites interesting and informative guest speakers; some communities arrange dinner meetings and social events. A highlight of the MOAA calendar is the annual conference, usually held on the last weekend in April in conjunction with the Annual General Meeting. This is an educational, informative and fun-filled weekend usually alternating between the lower mainland and the rest of BC. We also offer access to Extended Medical, Dental and Insurance benefits that you can pay for personally or you can present to your employer to be paid. Once you are a member check out the resources page for all the information.
We are now engaging with Medical Clinic/Office managers monthly for a private forum to improve efficiency and discuss issues. We are also planning on engaging more with students to ensure they have their questions answered and they can have support to enter this fantastic field.
HOW TO JOIN
New members can join by attending a meeting of the New Westminster Chapter or become a Member-At-Large. Membership dues are $50 and are paid annually. Student fees are half the cost of member’s annual fees. MOAA pins are also available. If joining a Chapter is not going to work for you, you may become a Member-at-large. Either way you hold the same valued membership whether as a chapter member or a member-at-large.
